Overview: Trotwood-Madison took advantage of four Mason turnovers to avenge last season’s 20-17 defeat. The Rams (1-0) got a spectacular running performance from sophomore Israel Green, who finished with 88 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. After the Rams took a 16-10 lead, the Comets (0-1) failed to convert on their next five possessions, throwing two INTs and turning it over on downs twice.
Turning point: Mason tied the score at 10 with a 31-yard field goal by Marcus Otte. The Rams answered when Green tore off a 65-yard touchdown run on his first carry to go ahead 16-10 with 3:39 left in the third quarter. Despite several chances, Mason was unable to establish any offensive rhythm.
Stat pack: The Rams Israel Green rushed nine times for 88 yards. … Trotwood running back Antwan Gilbert rushed 21 times for 106 yards. … Trotwood-Madison (five) and Mason (four) combined for nine turnovers. … Mason running back David Fulcher ran 22 times for 53 yards and one touchdown…Comet quarterback JD Sprague, making his first varsity start, was 6-of-18 for 45 yards and had two interceptions…Mason’s Robert Swonger and Jacob Hurley each intercepted Ram quarterback Marcus Graham.
